Lightsource bp has achieved a significant milestone in Poland with the 40MW Kotuń solar project reaching commercial operation. Since establishing its presence in Poland in late 2020, Lightsource bp has made remarkable progress in developing a 3.2GW project pipeline and strengthening its foothold. With a dedicated team of over 30 professionals, the company is steadfast in its mission to become Poland's leading renewable energy provider.
The commercial operation of the Kotuń solar project marks the commencement of a long-term Power Purchase Agreement between Microsoft and Lightsource bp, signed in September last year. This 40MWac solar project will contribute to the decarbonization of the Polish grid and support Microsoft's objective of achieving a 100% renewable energy supply by 2025.
Poland, one of the most carbon-intensive power grids in the EU, relies heavily on renewable energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Solar energy is crucial in this energy transition, and the projects developed by Lightsource bp are integral to this historic transformation.
Michał Głowacki, Country Head for Lightsource bp in Poland, remarked, "Solar energy has a huge role to play in Poland's energy transition, and the solar projects we are developing are part of this historic transformation. The Kotuń solar farm reaching commercial operation is our first significant contribution to the country's decarbonization targets."
