Malaysia | Leader Energy Begins Construction of 100 MW / 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage Project

Malaysia, October 2026 — Leader Energy has reportedly commenced construction of a 100 MW / 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Malaysia, marking a further step in the country’s efforts to strengthen grid flexibility and support the integration of renewable energy.
With a power capacity of 100 MW and an energy storage capacity of 400 MWh, the project is designed to deliver up to four hours of storage at full rated output. Utility-scale battery storage can help balance fluctuations in electricity supply and demand, improve the utilization of renewable energy, and provide greater flexibility for grid operations.
As Malaysia continues to expand its renewable energy capacity, energy storage is becoming increasingly important in addressing the intermittency of solar power and supporting a more reliable and flexible electricity system.
The project highlights the growing role of large-scale battery storage in Malaysia’s energy transition, as the country explores solutions to accommodate higher shares of renewable energy while maintaining grid stability.
