Malaysia’s Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has awarded an EPC contract to BELECTRIC GmbH for 102 MW solar farm projects in UK.
TNB awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the project through its wholly owned subsidiary Vantage RE Ltd.
The solar farms are likely to have a commercial operation date by the first quarter of 2024. The projects include the construction and commissioning of 102 MW solar farms and a 65 MW Battery Energy Storage System, the company said.
The projects are likely to generate power which can cater the annual needs of over 37,000 homes and save over 46,750 tonnes of CO2.
According to the company statement, TNB's solar farms are expected to provide stable long-term revenue under a 15-year Contract-for-Difference subsidy scheme.
"We are pleased to be partnering with BELECTRIC as we grow our solar generation portfolio in the UK, progressing towards our global environmental, social and governance efforts to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, as outlined in TNB's Sustainability Pathway," TNB president and chief executive officer Datuk Indera Baharin Din, was quoted in the statement.
He further stated, "This investment has grown TNB's RE capacity in the UK to 632 MW, a significant 61% growth in MW capacity since the launch of Vantage RE back in July 2021."
