In a significant step towards regional energy collaboration, leading energy companies from Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam have signed a joint development agreement to explore the cross-border export of renewable electricity from Vietnam to Malaysia and Singapore.
The agreement marks a milestone in Southeast Asia’s pursuit of sustainable energy solutions, reinforcing the collective ambition to accelerate decarbonisation and enhance regional power integration through commercially viable initiatives.
Under the partnership, Malaysia is represented by the MY Energy Consortium — an unincorporated collaboration between Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas). They will work alongside a consortium comprising PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), a subsidiary of Vietnam’s state-owned Petrovietnam Group, and Sembcorp Utilities Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries.
The joint initiative will focus on harnessing Vietnam’s abundant renewable energy resources, with a particular emphasis on offshore wind power, to generate clean electricity for cross-border supply. The parties outlined their shared vision in a joint statement issued today, noting the project's alignment with ASEAN’s broader efforts to develop a regionally integrated ASEAN Power Grid.
This alliance underscores the increasing momentum behind collaborative clean energy ventures in Southeast Asia and represents a forward-looking strategy to secure sustainable, reliable, and low-carbon power for the region’s future.
