Octopus Energy acquires two wind farms of 57MW in Germany



Octopus Energy has acquired two wind farms with a combined 57MW capacity in Germany.

The company announced of these farms to boost country’s green power and reduce reliance on imported gas.

According to the company, Octopus Energy acquired a wind farm from renewables developer JUWI and wiwi consult. It is the company’s first deal out of two.

This 22.4MW wind farm is located in Wörrstadt near Frankfurt. It is currently under construction and likely to be operational in 2023. It has been informed that the wind farm consists of 4 Vestas turbines.

Similarly, as per the second agreement, the company acquired the Leeskow wind farm from UKA. The 34.6MW wind farm is located in Oberspreewald-Lausitz, near Dresden. It has been informed that the project consists of 7 Nordex wind turbines. It came into operation in September.

According to the company, the two wind farms have a capacity to power over 41,000 households.

Octopus Energy Generation chief executive Zoisa North-Bond was quoted in a statement, "After entering Germany’s renewable generation market for the first time earlier this year, we’re really accelerating momentum with these two latest wind farm deals. We’re continuing to ramp up our renewable generation capabilities across Europe as more local cheap green energy is needed now more than ever as countries look to secure greater energy independence."

The development comes following the entry of Octopus into the German generation market. The company informed that it is considering building 1200MW of wind and solar farms in Germany by 2030.
