A renewable energy unit of PetroEnergy Resources Corp is preparing to begin commercial operations for a new 19.6 MWDC solar power plant in the Philippines.
In a stock exchange filing, the company announced that the San Jose Solar Power Plant will officially go online starting August 1. The facility is managed by San Jose Green Energy Corporation, a subsidiary of Rizal Green Energy Corporation, which is a joint venture between PetroEnergy’s renewable arm, PetroGreen Energy Corporation, and Japan's Taisei Corporation.
The plant received its Provisional Authority to Operate from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on July 15, and on July 28, it secured approval from the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) to participate in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) as a commercial generator.
According to Maria Victoria Olivar, Vice President for Commercial Operations and Business Development at PetroGreen Energy, the San Jose facility marks the company’s second utility-scale solar project to reach commercial status this year. It follows the 27.1 MWDC Dagohoy Solar Power Plant in Bohol, which began operations on July 16.
Both plants are part of a four-project solar portfolio under Rizal Green Energy. The remaining two—the 40 MWDC Limbauan Solar Power Plant in Isabela and the 25 MWDC Bugallon Solar Power Plant in Pangasinan—are expected to be completed in 2025.
