Philippines awards Mainstream Renewable Power 2 onshore wind projects

The projects have a total capacity of 440 MW.

The Department of Energy entered a Wind Energy Service Contract with Mainstream Renewable Power for the development of two onshore wind projects in the Luzon and Visayas regions with a total capacity of 440 megawatts (MW).

In a statement, the department said the first project is the 100 MW Santa Ana Cagayan Wind Project in Cagayan Province, whilst the second is the 340 MW Panaon Wind Project to be established in Leyte Province.

The projects, which are Mainstream’s first wholly-owned onshore wind service contracts in the Philippines, have an operating period of 25 years.

Mainstream has been active in the Philippines since 2017 with an existing partnership with the Aboitiz Power Corp for a 58 MW onshore wind project under the government’s Green Energy Auction Project. The wind facility will start operations in 2026.

The department has so far issued 21 wind energy service contracts to foreign-owned firms, of which four are for offshore, whilst the remaining 17 are for onshore wind projects.
