April 21, 2026 – The Philippines government has officially announced its 7th Green Energy Auction (GEA-7), reinforcing its commitment to accelerating renewable energy deployment and strengthening energy security.
The latest auction round, led by the Department of Energy Philippines, will focus on expanding solar and other renewable energy capacities, continuing the country’s push toward achieving its target of 35% renewable energy share in the power generation mix by 2030.
According to the DOE, the upcoming auction is expected to attract strong participation from both local and international developers, building on the success of previous auction rounds that significantly boosted installed renewable capacity across the country.
The Green Energy Auction Program has become a key policy mechanism in driving cost-competitive renewable deployment in the Philippines. By providing long-term offtake visibility and transparent bidding processes, the program has enabled developers to scale projects while improving investor confidence in the market.
Industry observers note that the Philippines remains one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic renewable energy markets, supported by growing electricity demand, favorable policy frameworks, and increasing private sector participation.
With rising interest in solar-plus-storage solutions, future auction rounds are also expected to further integrate energy storage technologies to enhance grid stability and reliability.
The launch of GEA-7 underscores the Philippines’ broader strategy to accelerate its energy transition, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and build a more resilient and sustainable power system.
