PORT OF HAMBURG TO GET LARGE IMPORT TERMINAL FOR GREEN HYDROGEN

The first significant green energy import terminal is intended to be constructed in the Port of Hamburg by industrial gas manufacturer Air Products and energy provider Mabanaft.

Green ammonia will be extensively converted into green hydrogen at the Oiltanking Deutschland tank farm terminal starting in 2026. The companies plan to invest 500 million euros initially, followed by another 500 million.

For the terminal, which will be stocked with imports, a 55,000-ton ammonia storage facility is to be constructed. Around 100,000 tons of hydrogen will be produced there annually once the plant is ramped up.

According to the company, 30,000 trucks, or 5% of Germany’s heavy goods traffic, could eventually be supplied with hydrogen due to the plant’s large-scale expansion.
