Highfield Solar secures financing for a 93-MWp solar project in Ireland

Irish joint venture (JV) Highfield Solar Ltd has closed a EUR-65-million (USD 70m) project financing debt facility to back the construction and operation of the 93-MWp Gaskinstown solar park in Ireland, Germany’s ib vogt, one of the JV partners, said on Monday.

The project, located near the village of Duleek, County Meath, was successful in the Irish government’s second Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS 2) auction in 2022. To employ bifacial modules and fixed-tilt support structures, the solar array is expected to be completed in September 2024.

The financing is provided by Cooperatieve Rabobank UA, which also financed the 106-MWp Rathnaskilloge project, originally developed by Highfield Solar, in December 2023.

“This Gaskinstown project as well as the recently closed Rathnaskilloge project are the continuation of a tremendously successful joint venture, building some of the largest solar plants in Ireland,” commented ib vogt chief executive Anton Milner.

The German developer is partnering with Ireland’s Highfield Energy and UK’s Aura Power, in the JV, which has completed a 282-MWp portfolio in Ireland.

Peter Kavanagh, managing director of Highfield Energy, said Highfield Solar is now looking forward to the continued roll-out of its portfolio.
