SADAFCO's new solar-powered depot in Makkah improves operational efficiency

Saudia Dairy and Foodstuff Company (SADAFCO), the prominent food manufacturer, vendor, and distributor based in Saudi Arabia, officially declares the inauguration of its latest sales depot in the Holy city of Makkah.

Construction for the project commenced on May 15th of the previous year, concluding in November 2023. This initiative stemmed from SADAFCO’s pursuit of greater operational efficiencies, value chain enhancement, and developmental opportunities within the region. The rising demand for food supplies in neighboring communities prompted the company to explore more efficient and sustainable ways to meet this growing demand.

Situated in the MODON industrial city, the newly constructed depot spans an area of 8,000 m2, with a built-up area of 2,800 m2 and a storage capacity of 2,300 m2. Featuring a roof area of 2,400 square meters and the potential to generate 350 kW of solar energy, the depot incorporates a solar energy system.

The opening of this depot reflects SADAFCO’s commitment to strengthening its performance, facilitating growth, and aligning with its innovation-driven philosophy. Anticipated benefits include cost savings, an optimized supply chain, and improved services to cities surrounding the Holy City.

The Makkah depot boasts a storage capacity of 1,500 pallets for ambient goods and 760 pallets for frozen goods, with provisions for expansion to accommodate 2,000 pallets of ambient goods and 1,000 pallets of frozen goods.

Patrick Stillhart, SADAFCO’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to announce the completion of the new depot in Makkah. Pioneering innovation is essential for SADAFCO’s sustainability and for enhancing societal well-being.”

He added, “SADAFCO has an established sales and distribution network across Saudi Arabia and the GCC region. We are committed to delighting consumers and addressing the growing demand in neighboring cities, considering the geographical significance of its location.”

As part of their sustainability initiatives, SADAFCO plans to develop eight additional solar-powered locations in the coming year, aiming to reduce reliance on the national grid, benefitting both the environment and the company’s employees.
