Suzlon Group, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions, announced on Monday that it has secured India’s largest wind energy order to date, amounting to 1,166 MW from NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL). The project involves the installation of 370 S144 wind turbine generators (WTGs), each equipped with a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower and a rated capacity of 3.15 MW. These turbines will be deployed across two projects by NTPC Renewable Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NGEL, and one project by IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt Ltd, both located in Gujarat.
This order brings Suzlon’s cumulative order book to nearly 5 GW as of September 3, 2024.
Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, expressed excitement about the collaboration with NTPC Green Energy Ltd, India's largest utility. He highlighted that this project would be the biggest wind energy initiative ever undertaken by a public sector unit (PSU) in Gujarat, cementing the state’s position as a leader in renewable energy.
“The successful completion of this project will not only set a new benchmark for future wind projects but will also significantly contribute to India’s energy self-sufficiency and NGEL’s ambitious goal of adding 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032,” said Tanti.
JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, emphasized that this order represents the first of many transformative collaborations between Suzlon and NGEL. He noted the importance of utility companies like NGEL in achieving India’s renewable energy targets, adding that the project will play a crucial role in the country’s energy transition and the success of the "Make in India" initiative.
Under the agreement, Suzlon will supply the wind turbines, oversee the erection and commissioning of the projects, and provide ongoing operations and maintenance services post-commissioning in Gujarat.
