Western Australia has launched tenders to boost renewable energy generation and dispatchable capacity in its wholesale electricity market.
Through the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) Tenders 5 and 6, the state plans to add 1.6 GW of renewable generation supported by 2.4 GWh of clean dispatchable storage. Authorities said this would deliver enough power for more than 900,000 homes annually, with sufficient storage to cover the peak needs of 550,000 households for four hours.
The tenders officially opened on 26 August, giving bidders ten weeks to submit proposals under the newly streamlined CIS process.
These rounds build on earlier CIS tenders, which have already secured 19 agreements nationwide, representing 5.85 GW of new capacity.
