AC Energy launches Net Zero roadmap of achieving decarbonization by 2040

AC Energy (ACEN) has launched a comprehensive Net Zero roadmap of achieving decarbonization by 2040.

ACEN is the energy firm of the Ayala group, and has become the first energy firm in Southeast Asia for this announcement.

According to the company, it has set an interim target for 2030 and neutralization by 2050. The roadmap incorporates emission reduction targets along with the GHG Protocol. ACEN plans to achieve a Net Zero GHG emissions status by 2050.

ACEN’s CEO Eric Francia remarked that the company’s climate ambition is in line with the goal of reaching 20 GW of renewables by 2030.

Earlier, in 2021, ACEN had announced its “commitment to achieving Net Zero GHG emissions by 2050 and plans to transition its generation portfolio to 100% renewable energy by 2025.”

ACEN informed that it owns a 4,030 MW net capacity generation portfolio out of which 98% is from renewables across the Asia Pacific region.

To be noted, the company has already concluded the full divestment of its South Luzon Thermal Energy Corporation coal plant.

It comes at a time when the Southeast Asia region has a goal to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050. To achieve this, “carbon dioxide emissions from the power sector need to decrease by approximately 60% between 2019 and 2030,” IEA report mentions.
