Germany | Enlight and ENERTRAG Begin Construction of 200 MW Battery Storage Project

October 14, 2026 — Enlight Renewable Energy and German renewable energy company ENERTRAG have commenced construction of the Bertikow battery energy storage system (BESS) in Brandenburg, Germany. The project has a power capacity of 200 MW and an energy storage capacity of approximately 840 MWh.
Located near the Bertikow substation in the municipality of Uckerfelde, the project is designed to store surplus renewable electricity and deliver it back to the grid when needed. Commercial operations are targeted for the first half of 2028.
Once operational, the facility is expected to participate in Germany’s day-ahead and intraday electricity markets, as well as ancillary services markets, helping balance electricity supply and demand and improve grid flexibility.
The project has secured a seven-year offtake agreement with EDF Trading for part of its capacity, while energy optimisation will be managed by Entrix. In addition, the facility is expected to provide grid restoration support services under a separate ten-year agreement commencing in July 2029.
The Bertikow project highlights the growing role of large-scale battery storage in integrating renewable energy into Germany’s electricity system. As wind and solar capacity expands, battery storage is becoming increasingly important for managing fluctuations in generation, supporting grid stability and creating new opportunities in electricity markets.
