ClearVue Technologies Limited (ASX:CPV), an Australian firm specializing in integrated solar building solutions, has announced that its solar façade technology achieved a payback period of just 2.6 years in a trial conducted by the Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD).
The EMSD trial showcased ClearVue’s Solar Vacuum-Insulated Glazing (VIG), which combines power generation with high thermal insulation while maintaining glass transparency. The technology aims to transform conventional building façades and windows into productive solar PV surfaces, supporting energy-efficient design.
The EMSD report described ClearVue’s product as a "paradigm shift" in architectural design. It highlighted that, based on the trial results, implementing the technology on a 40-storey building across 15 major cities could offset between 74% and 125% of annual energy consumption, depending on location and building performance.
In terms of thermal performance, ClearVue’s VIG panels recorded internal surface temperatures 7.74°C lower than those of standard windows during peak heat periods, indicating significant insulation benefits.
The trial began in July 2024, with EMSD evaluating the energy generation, heat resistance, and overall energy savings from ClearVue’s Vision Glass PV glazing. The installation will continue to be monitored for an additional 12 months and will remain permanently installed at the EMSD headquarters.
ClearVue’s products hold an A2-s1, d0 fire rating, making them suitable for use in buildings over 18 meters tall and in sensitive environments such as hospitals, schools, and hotels.
Douglas Hunt, Interim CEO of ClearVue, remarked that the independently verified results clearly demonstrate the technology’s impact on sustainability and its potential to accelerate the energy transition in the built environment. The short 2.6-year payback period, he noted, makes adoption both financially and environmentally appealing.
To support its regional expansion, ClearVue has announced plans to establish a subsidiary in Hong Kong and form a joint R&D venture with LandVac, focusing on commercializing the Solar VIG technology in broader markets.
The company plans to use the EMSD’s final report and certification to boost commercial rollout efforts and position its technology as a mainstream solution for high-performance green buildings.
