Mawarid Turbine Company has teamed up with state-owned energy company OQ to launch the first phase of a wind turbine factory in Oman with an annual production capacity of up to 1,000 MW.

The manufacturing facility will be established in the Duqm Special Economic Zone, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals announced on Sunday.
The first phase of the investment is valued at over OMR 70 million (USD 181.8m/ EUR 159.7m).
The factory is expected to become operational in 2026, marking the region’s first wind turbine manufacturing facility and contributing to the localisation of renewable energy technology. It is projected to create about 1,080 jobs.
“This will support many ambitious projects planned for implementation over the next two years. We hope the first phase of the factory will begin production by the end of next year,” said energy minister Salim Al Aufi.
The project is part of Oman Vision 2040's plan to develop renewable energy and enhance national capabilities.
Oman’s first utility-scale wind farm, the 50 MW Dhofar I, began operations in 2019. In September 2024, a total of 12 qualified bidders were selected to advance to the next round of a tender for five wind projects across the Sultanate, which are scheduled to come online in 2027.
