Risen Energy Achieves Major Breakthrough in Perovskite Tandem Solar Cell Technology, Setting New Efficiency Record

April 2026, Ningbo, China — Risen Energy Co., Ltd. has announced a significant advancement in its high-efficiency photovoltaic research, achieving a new milestone in silicon-based heterojunction (HJT) perovskite tandem solar cell technology. The company’s R&D team has successfully developed a 1 cm² tandem cell with a certified power conversion efficiency of 31.95% and an open-circuit voltage of 1.988V, marking another step forward in next-generation solar innovation.

This efficiency improvement builds on Risen Energy’s long-term and in-depth research across both HJT and perovskite technology pathways. As one of the early pioneers in the industrialization of HJT technology in China, the company has established a strong foundation in R&D and mass production. Its technological portfolio spans from n-type HJT high-efficiency ground-mounted PV products to p-type HJT cells designed for the extreme conditions of space applications.


A key advantage of HJT technology lies in its bifacial symmetrical structure and naturally transparent conductive electrodes, making it an ideal bottom-cell platform for perovskite tandem devices. This configuration not only simplifies integration pathways but also maximizes spectral utilization, improving energy yield and reducing system-level losses.


However, translating these structural advantages into high-performance tandem devices requires overcoming significant process challenges. In particular, the pyramid-textured surface of HJT cells—designed to enhance light capture—poses strict requirements for the conformal and uniform deposition of interfacial charge transport layers in the upper perovskite cell.


To address this challenge, Risen Energy’s research team adopted a water-bath infiltration process, successfully forming a high-quality self-assembled monolayer on the complex textured surface. This interfacial layer helps reduce defect density and improve charge transport, thereby enhancing overall device performance. The optimized tandem cell has achieved a certified efficiency of 31.95%, validated by authoritative testing institutions. This process route provides a viable approach for improving tandem cell performance and supports the technology’s transition toward practical application.


In parallel with its technological development efforts, Risen Energy is also actively contributing to industry standardization. The company participated in the formulation of the national standard “Photovoltaic Devices – Part 12: Measurement Methods for Current-Voltage Characteristics of Perovskite Solar Cells and Modules.” The standard has now entered the approval stage, reflecting industry recognition of the company’s technical expertise and practical experience.


While continuing to advance laboratory-level breakthroughs, Risen Energy is also focusing on large-scale industrialization. Supported by its Zhejiang Province “Pioneer and Leading” R&D project, the company is intensifying efforts in key commercialization challenges, including large-area perovskite film fabrication and long-term encapsulation technologies.


Risen Energy has outlined a clear development roadmap, aiming to further improve HJT single-junction cell efficiency and module power output while steadily advancing the commercialization of perovskite tandem technology over the coming years.


This latest achievement further strengthens Risen Energy’s competitive position in high-efficiency photovoltaic innovation.
