Singapore | Singapore Targets More Than 1 GWh of Energy Storage by 2030

Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA) has introduced a new Energy Infrastructure Plan targeting more than 1 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030, as the country prepares for rapidly increasing electricity demand.
Singapore's peak electricity demand reached 8.6 GW in August 2026. The EMA expects this figure to rise to between 9.9 GW and 13 GW within five years, driven by semiconductor manufacturing, data centres and electrification.
To strengthen grid flexibility, the government plans to expand both solar PV generation and battery storage deployment.
Singapore currently has approximately 350 MWh of operational energy storage capacity. Its previous target of 200 MWh by 2025 was achieved two years ahead of schedule, following the commissioning of a 200 MW / 285 MWh battery system on Jurong Island in 2023.
The new strategy also raises the country's cumulative solar PV target from 3 GWp by 2030 to 4 GWp by 2035, with installations expected across reservoirs, vacant land and rooftops.
Alongside deployment targets, the EMA has launched an industry consultation to explore new storage technologies, commercial models and market regulations. The consultation will remain open until January 27, 2027.
