The Spanish government has published permitting notices for two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects totaling 225.6 MW in the province of Badajoz, along with two solar PV developments.
FRV has applied for prior administrative authorization for the 108 MW BESS Gaetana project, which will be co-located with the existing 166.4 MW Gaetana solar plant to create a hybrid facility with a combined capacity of 180 MW.
The company has also applied for prior administrative and construction authorization for the 117.6 MW BESS Aurea project. The battery system will be paired with the existing 171 MW Aurea solar plant in the municipality of La Roca de la Sierra, also in Badajoz.
The government also published a declaration of public utility for Greenalia’s 49.35 MW El Tranco solar project and its associated grid infrastructure in the municipalities of Lubrín and Antas, in Almería.
In addition, Abio Power applied for prior administrative and construction authorization, a declaration of public utility, environmental approval, and land-use authorization for the 860 kW L’Arrendament agrivoltaic project in Botarell, Tarragona.
The government noted that the published notices identify the original project developers and that ownership may have changed since the applications were submitted.
