With cabinet approval secured, the Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has initiated plans to construct the state's first solar expressway.
On Tuesday, the authority launched a global bidding process, providing details of the project and inviting interested companies to submit their proposals.
The project will cover over 296 km, with UPEIDA offering 1,700 hectares (approximately 4,200 acres) of land along the Bundelkhand Expressway for its development.
Solar photovoltaics can be installed in a 15 to 20-metre area on either side of the carriageways, as well as on slope areas and loops around major junctions.
To incentivize participation, UPEIDA will lease 1 acre of land for a nominal fee of Rs 1 for one year. In return, it will seek a share of the profits generated by the green power companies. Officials indicated that a reserve price of Rs 0.07 per unit will be set, and the bidder offering the highest revenue share will be selected.
Each bidder must generate a minimum of 50 megawatts, with a maximum potential output of 450 to 500 megawatts from solar energy. The total investment required to develop the 296 km solar expressway is estimated to be around Rs 2,500 crore.
