Austrian utility Verbund AG has commissioned a 50-MW solar farm in Ciudad Real province, central Spain, its unit Verbund Green Power Iberia said on Thursday.
The Calatrava II solar farm is equipped with 76,632 photovoltaic panels assembled on a site spanning 99 hectares. Spanish infrastructure builder Lantania was in charge of the of the plant.
Calatrava II is already feeding electricity into the grid. The solar farm is expected to be able to generate 100 GWh of electricity annually, which is enough to power approximately 30,000 households for a year.
With this project, Verbund Green Power Iberia reaches 680 MW of renewables in operation in Spain. This includes 380 MW of wind power and an additional 300 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity.
