Wind turbine manufacturers supply record amount of 104GW in 2021



In 2021, wind turbine manufacturers supplied a record amount of 104GW, according to GWEC’s Supply Side Data report which is published annually. As per the data, 30 turbine makers installed 104.7GW of new wind power capacity last year.


This was possible amid disruptions caused by the pandemic and increment in commodity prices and logistical problems, it said.


According to this latest report, at least 29,234 wind turbines were installed globally. Among 30 wind turbine manufacturers, 18 are based in Asia Pacific while nine are from Europe.


The data shows that among all, Vestas became the number one turbine supplier with 17.7% of the new installations. It has continued to be at the top spot.


Vestas is followed by Chinese company Goldwind with 11.8% and Siemens Gamesain third with 9.7% global market share.


The report indicated that both Vestas and Siemens Gamesa had record years, "with both companies leading the way in geographic diversification, with 37 and 32 countries delivered to, respectively."


With the latest data, it is concluded that the wind industry had a record year in new installations for offshore wind, larger onshore wind turbines were installed in China. "Medium-speed wind turbines continue to gain popularity, the data shows, with its global market share increasing to 9.7% in 2021," a report mentioned.
