Sabah Electricity Advances Strategic Projects to Strengthen Sabah’s Power Grid

Sabah Electricity (SE) is implementing several strategic infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening the capacity and stability of Sabah’s electricity grid.

Among the company’s key initiatives is a 100MW battery energy storage system (BESS), which SE Chairman Datuk Saadiah Aziz identified as an important project for increasing power capacity and improving grid stability, particularly along Sabah’s east coast.

The BESS forms part of a broader programme to reinforce the state’s electricity infrastructure as power demand and system requirements continue to evolve.

Sarawak-Sabah Interconnection Adds Initial 50MW Capacity

SE also launched the Sarawak-Sabah power grid interconnection project in January, with an initial capacity of 50MW.

The interconnection represents another strategic step in strengthening the regional power network and enhancing the flexibility of electricity supply between Sabah and Sarawak.

Southern Link Project Moves into First Phase

In June, SE launched the first phase of the Southern Link Project, covering approximately 60km.

Together with the BESS and Sarawak-Sabah interconnection, the project forms part of SE’s ongoing efforts to improve the reliability and resilience of Sabah’s power system.

SE has also urged consumers to use electricity responsibly during periods of hot and dry weather, noting that excessive load on the grid could affect overall system stability.

The combination of large-scale energy storage, grid interconnection and transmission infrastructure reflects Sabah’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its electricity network and improve system resilience.
