JS Solar Holding Bhd has secured an RM18.05 million contract from GSparx Sdn Bhd to carry out engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) works for a combined solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage system (BESS) project at AEON Mall Seremban 2 in Malaysia.
The contract was awarded to JS Solar’s subsidiary, JS Solar Sdn Bhd, and covers the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of both building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) and rooftop solar systems, together with a battery energy storage system.
The solar installation will have a total capacity of 4,652.5 kWp, while the accompanying BESS will provide 3,856 kWh of storage capacity.
The project represents another example of Malaysia’s growing deployment of commercial and industrial (C&I) solar combined with energy storage, particularly at large commercial properties with significant and relatively predictable electricity demand.

GSparx, the project owner and contracting party, is an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) through TNB Retail Sdn Bhd. The involvement of a TNB-linked company highlights the increasingly important role of Malaysia’s utility ecosystem in supporting distributed renewable energy and energy storage deployment.
Solar + BESS Moves Deeper Into Malaysia’s Commercial Sector
The combination of more than 4.65 MWp of solar capacity with nearly 3.86 MWh of battery storage enables the project to go beyond conventional rooftop solar generation.
For a large commercial facility such as a shopping mall, the integration of BESS can potentially improve the utilisation of on-site solar generation by allowing excess electricity to be stored and subsequently used when required.
The project also reflects the broader shift in Malaysia’s distributed energy market toward integrated solar-plus-storage solutions, as commercial electricity consumers increasingly look for ways to improve energy efficiency, manage electricity consumption and strengthen their renewable energy credentials.
The development comes as Malaysia continues to expand its renewable energy deployment through initiatives including the Large Scale Solar (LSS) programme, corporate renewable energy mechanisms and distributed solar schemes.
While utility-scale solar remains an important component of Malaysia’s energy transition, projects such as the AEON Mall Seremban 2 installation demonstrate the potential for C&I properties to become an additional source of renewable generation capacity.
Contract to Be Completed by February 2027
According to JS Solar’s filing with Bursa Malaysia, the contract is expected to contribute positively to the company’s earnings, earnings per share and net assets for the financial year ending March 31, 2027, subject to unforeseen circumstances.
The contract is scheduled to commence on August 19, 2026, with completion expected by February 19, 2027.
As part of the contractual requirements, JS Solar is also required to provide GSparx with a RM900,000 performance security, equivalent to 5% of the total contract value, within 28 days of receiving the letter of acceptance.
The project provides JS Solar with another opportunity to strengthen its position in Malaysia’s solar EPCC market while expanding its exposure to integrated solar PV and BESS projects.
More broadly, the project highlights a potentially important direction for Malaysia’s C&I renewable energy market: as commercial buildings increasingly adopt rooftop solar, battery storage is becoming an additional component of the distributed energy equation.
